Why did Firefly get canceled?

Why on Earth did this show get pulled of television. This is perhaps the best Science Fiction that has every appeared on TV.
With the film out now, is there any chance that it will ever be brought back with new episodes? Certainly, all of us would be watching.

It was pulled because the FOX channel f**ked it up, like they have done too many other good shows. They never aired the pilot, so they made Joss rewrite the first episode to sort of explain everything. I remember reading they also played a few episodes out of sequence or something. They also cancelled it before airing the last three episodes, which can be found on the DVD set.

The last I heard, during the shooting, that if all went well with the movie, Joss would like to bring it back as a series. Has anyone else heard anything more recent?

Sorry, that was my fault. My bad, everyone!

The series was shown out of order, it had crappy publicity and Fox kept preempting it and rescheduling it. The usual bullshit.

Last I heard, there is no chance of a new "Firefly" series. Joss is moving in full-tilt on "Wonder Woman", but is not averse to more "Serenity" movies.

Actually, he has many fires in the pot besides Wonder Woman. I have read several interviews from him, and people who work for him, that he may do a TV movie and series/spin-off of Spike, the vampire from Buffy, The Vampire Slayer. Nothing has been officially written yet, but he is making sure everyone is onboard, time-wise, etc, including some writers he trusts to take over the series. I would gather, this could happen to Firefly or Serenity as well.

Yeahbut, the rumored Spike-centered TV Movie is one he'd only be exec. producing...not directing or writing (well, beyond script-doctoring, knowing Joss...he can never seem to resist that).

In any event, it wouldn't be as time-consuming as writing.

Tho I thought I heard he was also writing another run of "X-men" comix...

And no, it won't happn to Serenity/Firefly, which is kinda Joss' baby now...more than the Buffyverse, at this point. Furthermore, with film projects a-brewing, sounds like Joss doesn't have time for terribily direct (writing/producing) TV involvement these days.

          *le sigh*

I saw that the actors are signed on to do three movies w/ Joss, so it's possible to get a sequel, but ww sales will probably need to pick up.

As to cancellation, well, they put it on Friday night, which isn't the best TV night.

I think the network was looking for something edgy from Joss, but they got something that contradicted everything they were about.
