I haven't heard anything about when this will be released. Everything I've seen about it says that it's in development. If my Joss history serves me, this is a script he wrote years ago.

Universal Pictures has acquired Goners, a fantasy thriller spec script Joss Whedon (Serenity) wrote and will direct, says Variety.

The trade added that the Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel and Firefly creator was cryptic in describing the project.

"It's the story of a young woman's journey that involves a great deal of horror and some heroics," he said. "It's certainly darker than 'Serenity,' and there are a lot of left turns along the way. It is something I had in mind for a while, and it just poured out of me when I finished my film."

Whedon is currently writing Wonder Woman for Warner Bros., which he'll also direct.

Anyone heard anything at all about this project lately? I can't find squat on the Goners site forums or the IMDB ones or by Google search that isn't from around the time Serenity came out. :(
